Shaping the Future

In full cooperation with The Search For Common Ground and the support of USAID, CARE's project, "Shaping the Future"

CARE produced a documentary series that demonstrates, while not inevitable, peace is possible and agreements can be reached on the key issues. The series explores the background, various positions, and the options for solutions in each of the disputed final status issues. The program looks at the following issues:

  • Right of Return and Refugees

  • Jerusalem

  • Settlements

  • Relations between the two states, including security issues

Methodology

The project is based on an existing structure of groups of educators set up throughout the West Bank. Each group works on a continuous basis throughout the scholastic year, tackling various issues relating to complex current events. These groups try to explore how it is possible to implement values of human rights and understanding within the classroom.

This project used four working groups that were already functioning and had working relationships with educators. The facilitators leading the groups, have already established a rapport with the teachers and have received previous training to lead the discussion in each group. The team of four facilitators will work with their groups of eight to ten teachers each, to design educational materials.

Together with the teachers in their groups the facilitators worked to create the teachers guide.

  •  The Right of Return

  •  Jerusalem

  •  Settlements

  •  Future Israeli-Palestinian Relations

More than 150 Palestinian Teachers (both females and males) from different geographical areas and educational sectors were trained in the project for implementation in their class rooms.
